The AWMA-CNY Chapter will host our next monthly meeting with a virtual lunch meeting scheduled for Tuesday November 29, 2022. The presenter, Roger Caiazza, has been working as an air pollution meteorologist in the environmental field for over 45 years and in New York since 1981 when he became the meteorologist at Niagara Mohawk. After retirement from a non-regulated generating company, he was Director of the Environmental Energy Alliance of New York, an ad hoc organization that addresses energy and environmental regulations that affect electric generating and transmission operations throughout New York. When he retired from that part-time position, he started the Pragmatic Environmentalist of New York blog that describes the challenges of balancing risks and benefits of environmental issues. A major focus of the blog the last several years has been the Climate Act. Roger will present a “Skeptical Overview of the Climate Act.” The Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (Climate Act) mandates a net-zero transition of New York’s energy system by 2050. This presentation provides a status update of the implementation planning for the Climate Act and the next steps, describes the challenges of a “zero-emissions” electric generating system, and explains the skeptical position that it is unlikely that the benefits of the proposed transition will out-weigh the costs and risks.
The meeting will take place via Zoom and you will be provided with a link to the meeting after your sign up, the day prior to the presentation. The meeting schedule will be as follows:
11:45 AM – 12:00 PM – Open Zoom Meeting Format (bring your lunch for a casual, non-structured time to catch up with your fellow participants).
